D’Angelo Day at NMAAM: Remember The Sound
Event
One year ago, we lost Michael Archer, the artist the world knew as D’Angelo. Join us as we mark one year since his passing with a day of listening, remembrance and celebration.
All day in Amplify, our museum store:
-
Remember The Sound: On the Feeling of D’Angelo, the audio documentary by Dr. Wesley J. Watkins, IV, tracing D’Angelo’s sound from West and Central-West Africa to Congo Square, through gospel, blues and funk, and on to J Dilla
-
The public debut of ANOTHER LIFE: The Enduring Art of Michael Archer, a tribute film by Brennan “Will Coloan” Williams and Lisa R. Mabry Pulley, featuring never-before-seen family photographs
-
Items from D’Angelo’s life and his Homegoing program
-
A family scavenger hunt through our galleries, available at the Amplify counter
His music plays all day on NMAAM Radio, alongside messages of love from his band, collaborators and friends. Listen on the web or the NMAAM Radio app for iOS.
The day closes at 7:00 pm with NMAAM & Orchestra Noir Present: The Culture 2000 Tour II, An Inside Look, a free evening of conversation and live musical moments.
With gratitude to the Archer family and to our Founding Board Member, Dyana Williams.
Please note: The audio documentary contains mature language.
