Emmy-Nominated Actor Tim Reid Brings His One-Man Show, “Life, Laughter, Legacy,” to the National Museum of African American Music on November 14
The star of WKRP in Cincinnati, Frank’s Place, and Sister, Sister traces his path from the segregated South to Hollywood in a single evening at the Roots Theater
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (October 28, 2026) – The National Museum of African American Music (NMAAM) will present Tim Reid: Life, Laughter, Legacy, a one-man show written and performed by the Emmy-nominated actor, producer, director, and humorist, on Saturday, November 14, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. in the museum’s Roots Theater at 510 Broadway. Tickets are on sale now at NMAAM.org.
Blending sharp wit, lived history, and unfiltered insight, Reid takes audiences from his childhood in the segregated South to the sound stages of Hollywood, where he spent more than four decades building a career and challenging the system that shaped it. The show moves through humble beginnings, life challenges, career breakthroughs, rise to fame, and the search for purpose with the candor of a man who has lived every scene he describes.
Reid calls himself a “jackleg historian” and has used his career in television and film to champion a truthful telling of Black culture and history. Audiences can expect to laugh, reflect, and leave with stories they have never heard before.
“Nashville is a city built on storytellers, and the Roots Theater was built for exactly this kind of night,” said Dexter D. Evans, Executive Vice President of Innovation and Global Engagement at NMAAM. “Tim Reid has spent his life making sure Black stories are told truthfully and told by the people who lived them. Hosting him on our stage, in a museum devoted to that same idea, is a privilege.”
“I have spent a long time telling other people’s stories on camera,” said Reid. “This one is mine, and there is no better room to tell it in than a museum built to preserve the music and the history that shaped my life.”
