NMAAM is a global music destination providing a transformative, inspirational, and educational experience across generations.

WELCOME

NMAAM is the only museum dedicated to educating and preserving music that was created, influenced, and inspired by African Americans. Each gallery is designed to share a different narrative and unique perspective on African American music and history, highlighting genres of music that includes gospel, blues, jazz, rhythm and blues (R&B), and hip-hop. 

We’re thrilled to have you join us for an immersive journey through the rich heritage and powerful impact of African American music.


MUSEUM HOURS

Our museum will be closed on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Museum hours and days are subject to change.

To provide the fullest museum experience, the last entry for all guests, including groups, is 4 PM.

Admissions

  • Online tickets are non-refundable but are valid for one year after your purchase date
  • Discounts are available in person for seniors, AARP cardholders, military, first responders, educators, students, and children between 5 and 17 years of age
  • Children ages 4 and under are free

Each general admission ticket includes an RFID Interactive Wristband. The wristband allows you to capture your favorite exhibits with a simple tap, create a personalized digital playlist to enjoy at home, access exclusive content based on your museum journey, and take home a communication keepsake of your visit.

Experience NMAAM without the cost on our special Free Admission Days, sponsored by our generous partners:

  • Nissan Free Wednesdays: Every first Wednesday of the month, enjoy complimentary access to the museum galleries; excludes access to Jubilation!

Entrances to the museum are located on Broadway and Rep. John Lewis Way. Elevator access is located at the Rep. Lewis Way entrance. Please see a NMAAM staff member if you or a member of your party needs assistance with the elevator and/or use of a wheelchair.
