The Soundtrack of the Pitch
Featuring, Black Players for change
The National Museum of African American Music (NMAAM) proudly presents a groundbreaking cultural partnership with Black Players for Change (BPC) that reimagines Black History Month through an innovative digital exhibit, “The Soundtrack of the Pitch.”
This unique collaboration explores the powerful connection between Black musical traditions and the creativity, rhythm, and expression that Black soccer players bring to the field—positioning the pitch as another stage in the Black creative canon, where movement, tempo, and style echo the influence of jazz, soul, hip-hop, and gospel.

Black Players for Change (BPC) and the National Museum of African American Music (NMAAM) have united to reframe Black History Month through this innovative digital exhibit. Featuring Miles Robinson, Jeremy Ebobisse, Nkosi Tafari, Emeka Eneli, Justin Morrow, and Black Players for Change Executive Director Allen Hopkins, Jr., this collaboration celebrates how Black athletes carry the same creativity, rhythm, and expression found in Black musical traditions onto the soccer pitch.
“The Soundtrack of the Pitch” positions the field as another stage in the Black creative canon—a space where movement, tempo, and style echo the influence of jazz, soul, hip-hop, and gospel. This partnership spotlights the powerful lineage that connects Black cultural expression across art forms, from the recording studio to the pitch.

NMAAM presents a digital gallery experience featuring curated “Sonic Profiles” that pair archival sounds from Black music history with contemporary soccer imagery. These profiles reveal the shared DNA of rhythm, improvisation, and artistry that defines both Black music and Black athletic excellence.
The experience extends beyond visual storytelling through a specially curated playlist developed by BPC players in collaboration with NMAAM. This soundtrack invites you to hear the connection between musical heritage and modern athletic expression—celebrating Black creativity in all its forms.
