Uncovering Roots: the mccrary sISTERS

In our exhibition series, “Living Legends,” the National Museum of African American Music has chosen to spotlight the extraordinary Nashville gospel ensemble, The McCrary Sisters. Established in 2010, the vocal group is made up of sisters Ann McCrary, Deborah McCrary, Regina McCrary, and Alfreda McCrary. They are daughters of Reverend Samuel H. McCrary, a founding member of The Fairfield Four.

The group released their debut album Our Journey on January 10, 2010, through McC Records. Their sophomore album All the Way was released March 25, 2013. Their debut album Let’s Go was released March 9, 2015, and their fourth, A Very McCrary Christmas, was released on November 15, 2019.

The sisters have also served as a part of the house band for the Americana Music Honors & Awards. In June 2022, it was announced that Deborah McCrary had passed. Her legacy is sustained with the remaining sisters continuing to release albums and perform. Their latest album, Love Is the Only Key, was released July 15, 2025, on McC Records. The McCrary Sisters were honorees at the AmericanaFest in 2025, receiving the Legacy of Americana Award at the Americana Honors & Awards on September 10, 2025. This exhibition will explore The McCrary Sisters’ career through personal photos provided by the group and one of their signature performance wardrobe sets.
