The State of Hip Hop

Concluding NMAAM’s yearlong celebration of Hip Hop’s 50th anniversary, The State of Hip Hop exhibition highlighted Nashville Scene’s coverage of Hip Hop culture in central Tennessee over the past three decades. The exhibit celebrated the city’s rich and dynamic Hip Hop legacy, showcasing the work of some of Nashville’s most influential producers and artists, including Street Symphony, Count Bass D, A.B. Eastwood, Ron Gilmore, and R.A.P. Ferreira.

The installation featured four curated cases, each tied to articles published in the Nashville Scene, and spotlighted the evolution of music production, performance, and creative expression within the local Hip Hop community. Visitors explored how these artists have shaped Nashville’s Hip Hop sound and contributed to its broader cultural impact.

The exhibition debuted with a special unveiling event on November 16, 2023, at NMAAM, offering an opportunity for the public to celebrate and reflect on the city’s Hip Hop story. By incorporating archival coverage alongside artifacts and multimedia from these artists, The State of Hip Hop captured the depth, breadth, and enduring influence of Nashville’s Hip Hop scene.
