Megan Piphus

On July 19, 2025, we celebrated Megan Piphus, four-time Emmy Award-winning producer, ventriloquist, and the first full-time Black woman puppeteer on Sesame Street, with a special exhibit and interactive afternoon at NMAAM. Visitors enjoyed a live performance featuring selections from her upcoming children’s album Cinderella Sweep, including the empowering single “A New Cinderella,” which features 53 girls from the nonprofit Saving Our Daughters.

The event highlighted Megan’s journey as a storyteller and puppeteer, with reflections on her groundbreaking career, live music, and the unveiling of newly donated artifacts celebrating her legacy. Among the displayed items is one of her beloved puppet friends from Sesame Street, now preserved in a museum case—a full-circle moment Megan described as a way to share her family’s legacy and history with the public.
