Dexter Evans and Michael Carter

Michael & Pamela Carter

Meet Michael and Pamela Carter, founding supporters of the National Museum of African American Music whose dedication spans nearly two decades. As early believers in NMAAM’s mission, the Carters made their first gift in 2005, demonstrating remarkable foresight in supporting what would become the world’s only museum dedicated to preserving and celebrating African American music.

Michael, Founder and Chairman of Pinnacle Construction Partners, brings the same visionary leadership that built his successful Nashville-based construction firm to his support of NMAAM. His company has been instrumental in major Nashville projects, including Nashville SC’s training facility, reflecting his deep investment in Music City’s growth and cultural development. Now in his role as Chairman, Michael continues to provide strategic guidance while maintaining his commitment to excellence and community impact.

The Carters’ consistent support over 11 consecutive years has helped NMAAM grow from vision to reality. As President’s Society members, they understand that preserving African American musical heritage requires sustained commitment and community investment. Their loyalty exemplifies the foundation of supporters who believed in NMAAM’s potential long before the museum opened its doors on Broadway.

“The Carters represent the best of our founding community,” notes the development team. “Their early faith in our mission and continued partnership demonstrate how individual supporters can help build lasting cultural institutions.”

Michael’s passion for innovation and long-term vision—qualities that defined his business success—now extend to his cultural philanthropy. The Carters’ partnership with NMAAM reflects a shared belief that African American music deserves recognition as the foundation of America’s soundtrack. Through their ongoing support, they help ensure that future generations will discover, understand, and celebrate the profound impact of African American musicians on American culture.

Thank you, Michael and Pamela Carter, for your unwavering commitment to preserving our musical heritage and building NMAAM’s future.
