Have questions about becoming a NMAAM member? You’re in the right place. Here are answers to some of the most common questions about membership benefits, policies, and how to make the most of your experience.
Can my guest(s) come to the National Museum of African American Music without a member present?
NMAAM members are welcome to bring guests. General admission for non-members is $35.00 for adults, $32.90 for seniors, $30.80 for educators and youth (ages 6-17), and free for children under 5.
Members may also designate a friend, family member, or colleague as a secondary member on their account. As a courtesy, we ask that at least one member be present when a guest is using member benefits.
Is my membership transferable to another person or family?
Memberships are non-transferable and valid only for the person or people listed on the membership account. However, members are welcome to use guest passes to bring a friend or family member. Please be prepared to show a photo ID when checking in at the front desk.
How do I purchase a gift of membership?
To give the gift of NMAAM membership, choose the level that’s right for you above and click “Buy”. You’ll be able to choose whether the membership cards are mailed to the recipient or to yourself. Memberships are active upon purchase.

Is my membership gift tax deductible?
Yes, your contributing-level memberships may be tax-deductible. However, tax regulations can vary, so we recommend consulting your tax adviser to determine what applies to your specific situation.
Is my membership refundable?
Memberships are non-refundable. Because museum memberships are considered tax-deductible contributions, they cannot be refunded once purchased.
