Living LEGENDS: Lorenzo Washington
During NMAAM’s MLK Day celebration in January 2024, the museum unveiled Living Legends: Lorenzo Washington, an exhibition honoring the founder and curator of the Jefferson Street Sound Museum.
Through his passion and commitment, Washington has played a pivotal role in preserving Nashville’s musical heritage. His work focuses on collecting and sharing artifacts and stories that document the history of Jazz, Soul, and Rhythm & Blues in North Nashville between the 1940s and 1970s.
The exhibition featured objects from the Jefferson Street Sound Museum’s collection, celebrating Washington’s tireless efforts to safeguard the legacy of Nashville’s African American music pioneers and to ensure that their contributions continue to inspire and uplift generations to come.
