SUMMARY:Jock Jams | Playing Beyond The Field
DESCRIPTION:Jock Jams: A Listening Session with Soul’d Creative Collective\, The Sound of Victory and DJ Partee \nDate: Thursday\, April 23\, 2026 \nTime: 6:00 PM  \nLocation: The Roots Theater\, National Museum of African American Music (NMAAM)\, 510 Broadway\, Nashville\, TN 37203 \nEvent Description:\nJoin us for an interactive live listening event with Soul’d Creative Collective and Nashville’s own DJ Partee dedicated to exploring the culture of sports anthems and the history of the  “jock jam”—a category of songs and musical anthems that have become closely associated with sport. Audiences will be invited to consider: What does sport sound like? How do music and sport collide in real time? What does Nashville sound like through sport? With the musical guidance of DJ Partee\, audience members will test their jock jam knowledge and create a distinctive soundtrack commemorating the event. \nJoin us before the event\, beginning at 5 pm\, for special FREE after-hours at the Museum and enjoy drinks available for purchase. \nAbout Soul’d Creative Collective: Founded by Creative Director Christian Sinclair and Vanderbilt alum and former NFL player Jonathan Wynn\, Soul’d Creative Collective is a Nashville-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that brings people together over the love of BIPOC arts and culture by focusing on education\, collaboration\, and access. \nAbout The Sound of Victory (SOV): Founded and helmed by co-directors Dr. Courtney M. Cox and Dr. Perry B. Johnson\, SOV is an interdisciplinary initiative and creative collective that explores the relationship between music/sound and sport through original scholarship\, multimedia productions\, cultural programming\, and public events. \nJock Jams is the final installment of Playing Beyond the Field\, a free\, three-part series exploring the historic relationship between music and sport\, with a particular focus on Nashville’s robust African American musical and sporting legacies. Curated by the co-directors of The Sound of Victory\, Courtney M. Cox and Perry B. Johnson\, Playing Beyond the Field is supported by the Vanderbilt Sports & Society Initiative and the National Museum of African American Music. \n  \nRSVP HERE!
